Bits and pieces 19 – 25 August 2013

The Ashes is almost over and even though the series hasn’t quite lived up to the hype, I’m still a bit sad. There’s loads to look forward to in the upcoming months, though. The Champions League is always fun, South Africa tour the UAE and then there is a massive summer of cricket back home in SA.

There are a few exciting things in the pipeline for me (I’m sorry if that sounds self-promoting),  so the little bit of downtime from Test cricket will be quite welcome.  Some stuff published in the last week…

For Sport360: As disgruntled cricket fans bemoan the quality on show during the fifth and final Ashes Test, it’s part and parcel of Test cricket. The sense of entitlement because somebody is paying for a ticket is somewhat misplaced.

For The Daily Maverick, as usual. Five talking points from day one and day two and something on the trouble with inconsistency of selection.
